The AI Era is about far more than high-performance AI workloads operating at the core and in the cloud. Powerful AI functionality has become portable enough to be built into a laptop. In fact, by 2028, 98% of all PCs shipped will be AI PCs that come with new NPUs designed to run AI tasks directly on the device.[1]
But new tech requires a new understanding of what’s available and what’s right for each use case. Helping your customers navigate their options and make wise, cost-effective decisions can make you an invaluable go-to resource as this new tech flourishes.
A quick AI PC primer
AI PC versus Copilot+ PC. The difference between those two is a great way to start the conversation with your customers.
The term “AI PC” refers to any PC that includes hardware engineered to accelerate local AI tasks. The most important of these is the Neural Processing Unit (NPU).
Unlike traditional CPUs and GPUs, NPUs were designed specifically to tackle AI workloads. On a standard AI PC, that includes tasks like background blurring, noise suppression and live captions for video calls. It can also accelerate creative workflows without stressing the CPU and GPU. This allows for extended battery life so users can multitask more efficiently without slowdowns.
NPU performance is measured in trillions of operations per second (TOPS). The NPU in your average AI PC is capable of around 10-16 TOPS. That enables it to perform 1-2 concurrent tasks, like voice-to-text and security threat detection.
If your customers need peak performance and the widest possible array of features, they’ll want to opt for Copilot+ PC with an NPU capable of at least 40 TOPS. That performance level enables rapid AI processing for complex creative tasks, like real-time video rendering and advanced generative AI tools.
Copilot+ PCs offer faster AI inferencing compared to standard AI PC models, making them ideal for users running intensive AI applications. These advanced AI-enabled PCs also include unique features like Recall, Cocreator and other deeply integrated Copilot functionality.
Why upgrade to a Copilot+ PC?
Once they better understand their choices, your customers will want to know why they should choose a Copilot+ PC. The answer might surprise them.
Dell Copilot+ PCs:
• Are 32% more energy efficient when using select AI-enhanced collaboration workloads.[2]
• Operate up to 3x faster when running widely used large language models.[3]
• Are up to 77% more energy efficient when leveraging advanced AI-powered security capabilities.[4]
• Can stay unplugged up to 41% longer.[5]
• Offer 78% better graphics performance.[6]
